George Duke: The Aura Will Prevail (1975)

Overview

“The Aura Will Prevail” is the sixth studio album by George Duke, an American keyboardist, composer, singer and producer who had worked in both jazz and popular music fields since the 1960s.

Commentary

The album was released in 1975 through MPS Records.

It is one of his masterpieces in the period when he had worked with Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention.

It is a popular fusion/jazz-funk album featuring George Duke’s electric pianos, analog synths and falsetto vocals, and blending the elements of jazz, rock, soul, funk, and Latin (Brazilian).

The soulfully singing analog synths (Arp Odyssey, MiniMoog) with heavy use of pitch bend are impressive.

The instrumental jazz-rock “Echidna’s Arf” is a cover of the tune by Frank Zappa and The Mothers.

The soul ballad “Uncle Remus” is a song co-written by Frank Zappa and George Duke.
