Overview

“Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space” is the third studio album by Spiritualized, an English rock band led by Jason Pierce (vocals, guitars, hammered dulcimer, piano, autoharp, arrangement), formerly of Spacemen 3, and formed in 1990.

Commentary

The album was recorded in 1995–1997, and was released in 1997 by Dedicated Records. It reached number four on the UK albums chart.

The music is psychedelic space rock/dream pop featuring noise guitar, synthesizers, an orchestra, and gospel choir. 

The album features guest appearances from the Balanescu Quartet (a London-based string quartet), The London Community Gospel Choir, and Dr. John.

The album Includes singles, “Electricity” (number 32 on the UK Singles Chart), “I Think I’m in Love” (number 27 on the UK Singles Chart) , and “Come Together”.

This album won the 1997 New Musical Express (NME) album of the year award, beating Radiohead’s “OK Computer” and The Verve’s “Urban Hymns”.
