Air: Moon Safari (1998)

“Moon Safari” is the debut album by Air, a French electronic pop duo formed by Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel in Paris in 1995.

The album reached No. 6 on the UK album charts, and No. 21 on the French album charts.

Easy listening/lounge music-tinged downtempo/ambient pop influenced by Burt Bacharach, Brian Wilson, the 1970s disco such as Giorgio Moroder, new age electronic music such as Tomita and Jean-Michel Jarre, new wave, and Saint Etienne.

Accessible and comfortable music with retro sound including moog synths, Rhodes piano, guitar and vocoder.

One of the masterpieces of the 1990s electronica.

It includes singles, “Sexy Boy” (No. 13 on the UK charts), “Kelly Watch the Stars”, and “All I Need”. “Sexy Boy” was used in the American film “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999) directed by Gil Junger.

American singer-songwriter Beth Hirsch sings a lead vocal on two tracks.
