概説

『ノーセンス・オブ・シン（No Sense of Sin）』（旧邦題: 青春のアルバム）は、イギリスのニュー・ウェイヴ・バンド、ロータス・イーターズ（The Lotus Eaters）のデビュー・スタジオ・アルバムである。

制作の背景

ロータス・イーターズはピーター・コイル（vocals）とワイルド・スワンズ（The Wild Swans）の創設メンバーだったジェレミー・”ジェム”・ケリー（guitar）を中心として1981年にリヴァプールで結成された。

1983年にデビューシングル「The First Picture of You」で人気を獲得し、1984年にデビューアルバム『No Sense of Sin』をリリースした。

バンドは1986年に解散したが、2002年に再結成した。

解説

アルバム『No Sense of Sin』は1984年にアリスタの子会社レーベルのシルヴァン・レコードから発売され、全英アルバムチャートで96位を記録した。

本アルバムはギター主導のジャングリーなポップサウンドを中心に構築されており、コイルの柔らかなヴォーカル、ケリーのきらめくようなギターワーク、メランコリックなメロディー、センチメンタルな叙情性が特徴である。

思春期の繊細な心情を鮮やかに表現した音楽である。

一部の曲にはキーボードやシンセサイザー、オーケストラ風のアレンジが導入されており、ゾンビーズ（The Zombies）やレフト・バンク（The Left Banke）などの1960年代のバロック・ポップに似た雰囲気を醸し出している。アコースティックなフォーク風の曲もある。

オリジナルのLP/CDは12曲収録。

1998年にBMG JAPANから再発されたCDは、「Too Young」「When You Look at Boys」「Start of the Search」が入っていないが、ボーナス・トラック10曲を含む19曲を収録。

2001年にVINYL JAPANから再発されたCDの収録曲はBMG JAPANのCDと同じである。

2010年にチェリー・レッド・レコードから再発されたCDは、オリジナルの全12曲とボーナス・トラック8曲の計20曲を収録。

「The First Picture of You」は1983年にシングルとしてリリースされ、全英シングルチャートで15位を記録した。B面は「The Lotus Eaters」。

「You Don’t Need Someone New / Two Virgins Tender」（1983年）、「Set Me Apart / My Happy Dream」（1984年）、「Out on Your Own / Endless」（1984年）、「German Girl」（1984年）、「It Hurts / The Evidence / Soul In Sparks / Church At Llanbadrig」（1985年）はシングルとしてリリースされた曲である。
